The park, nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, is a jewel of lush forests, acacia woodlands, and expansive alkaline lakes. Begin your game drive with the first light, when the animals are most active and the scenery is bathed in the golden hues of dawn.
The dense groundwater forest, one of the park's most striking features, is home to a variety of wildlife. You will likely encounter troops of playful baboons, agile vervet monkeys, and the elusive bushbuck hidden among the ancient fig and mahogany trees. As the forest gives way to open grasslands and woodlands, keep an eye out for Lake Manyara’s famous tree-climbing lions, often seen lounging on branches.
The shimmering waters of Lake Manyara, dotted with pink flamingos and other waterfowl, create a picturesque backdrop. The lake attracts a multitude of birds, making it a paradise for bird enthusiasts. Look for pelicans, storks, and herons, among the 400 bird species recorded here. The shores of the lake are also frequented by large herds of elephants, which can often be seen cooling off in the water or feeding on the lush vegetation.
As you traverse the park, you'll encounter a variety of other wildlife, including zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, and hippos. The diverse habitats of Lake Manyara support a wide array of animals, providing endless opportunities for wildlife viewing and photography.
